Learning activity

Create Infographic

Let students collaborate to create an infographic or PowerPoint about a piece of literature, a case study or a project they did. By creating a visual of a large amount of text, students are forced to only present the most important aspects. Students  combine their individual knowledge, to collectively create an image. Let students present their infographics.

Examples of infographics in the Teaching & Learning Collection:

On-campus

The activity takes about 30-60 minutes and could be done with a large group of students. It could be used as a blended learning activity.

Manual

Supplies needed:

  • Literature to study
  • Pen and paper and/or digital apps like Adobe Illustrator, Microsoft PowerPoint or Whiteboard.

Set-up classroom:

Put the tables in groups, to let students collaborate effectively.

Optionally: using a Teaching & Learning Lab could be suggested, due to its flexible furniture. The walls are whiteboards and could be used by students to draw their concept maps.

Step 1. (Preparation)

Select literature for students to study and use for their infographic or PowerPoint. Also, a case-study could be used for students to provide a possible solution to a problem.

Step 2. (preparation)

Provide students with the necessary body of knowledge. By letting students prepare at home, you make the activity blended.

Step 3. (preparation/during class)

Instruct students about the criteria you have for the infographics and about the learning activity. Make groups and let students work together.

Step 4. (During class)

Students present their findings to the class. When working with a large group, ask certain interesting infographics to present theirs.

Optionally: let students upload their infographics in Pitch2Peer and provide each other with feedback.

Step 5. (Evaluation)

Let students ask questions and try to have a small discussion. Provide keynotes to take home, when students have presented.

Manual

Supplies needed:

  • Literature to study
  • Pen and paper and/or digital apps like Adobe Illustrator, Microsoft PowerPoint or Whiteboard.

Set-up classroom:

Create a classroom in Microsoft Teams to use. Create as much channels as there are groups. If presentations are given to the whole group, you could do this in the general channel.

Optionally: Using a Virtual Classroom could be suggested, due to its elaborate technical options.

Step 1. (preparation)

Prepare the Microsoft Teams and create multiple channels. Add to every channel an individual Microsoft Whiteboard for students to collaborate.

Step 2. (preparation/during class)

Select literature for students to study and use for their infographic or PowerPoint. Also, a case-study could be used for students to provide a possible solution to a problem.

Step 3. (During class)

Provide students with the necessary body of knowledge in class or upfront. By letting students prepare at home, you make the activity blended.

Step 4. (During class)

Instruct students about the criteria you have for the infographics and about the learning activity. Make groups and let students work together in their designated Teams channel.

Step 5. (During class)

Let students download their Whiteboard as an image, so they can present it to the group after coming back to the main channel. Ask groups to present their findings. When working with a large group, select certain interesting infographics to present theirs.

Optionally: let students upload their infographics in Pitch2Peer and provide each other with feedback.

Step 6. (Evaluation)
